Biomom was having problems with the Uncle (her brother) following through on visitations, with frequent cancels, reschedules, no shows, and cutting visits short/arriving late. They lived about an hour away, which was an issue.
Biomom was also concerned about the level of care her son was getting with this Uncle. So the out of home voluntary safety plan became a full blown out of home traditional foster care plan.
And biomom, after meeting with me and talking with me, felt so relieved. She was so worried she'd made a mistake with asking Parrot to be moved into foster care. But she once she could see I was non-threatening, and would take care of her child, she was very relaxed and she DID GREAT! She was truly wonderful to work with and she cared very much about her son.
She made one stupid mistake and endangered her child, but would never intentionally harm them or neglect them. She worked her butt off and got him back within 4 months of placement.
I am sure this mom is very unusual though.
